Over the past 12 months NAPIT have been developing a technical reference guide to assist inspectors with coding observations found during Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs).
The only definitive guide of its kind available on the market, EICR Codebreakers is essential for anyone carrying out EICRs and facing what’s arguably the most difficult decision; what code to give an observation?
The new book, gives you the answers you need. It has been written to break the EICR codes for you, and recommends clear concise explanations for EICR section K and the schedules of inspections, required for an EICR found in Appendix 6 of BS 7671.
The book is made up of different sections of the EICR inspection schedules, found in BS 7671:2008 (2015). By clearly identifying the different inspection schedule requirements, NAPIT have been able to align real world EICR findings, observations and results with acceptable and reasonable codes.
Coding observations is a very subjective task and relies greatly on the inspector’s knowledge, experience, and perception of what they feel is good or bad. Until now the information available for inspectors on EICR codes was limited. The industry would give different views and recommendations for coding observations based on how they felt at that given time. The new publication eliminates the uncertainty and questions surrounding EICR code observations and allows the industry to collectively have reference to one guide.
Frank Bertie, NAPIT Group Technical Director, commented
“EICR Codebreakers will continually evolve to be in line with current regulations and allows users to take its observations and codes and modify them to new situations. By taking this approach to defining existing observations and developing new ones, NAPIT is helping to train the industry in what is arguably the hardest technical competence to master. By using EICR Codebreakers, the industry is on a level playing field, the most commonly found observations have been brought together for everyone to benefit”.
EICR Codebreakers is available from NAPIT Direct for £9.99 (which includes postage and packaging). NAPIT are also looking into releasing an electronic subscription of the book available soon!
